I realized I haven’t run a 5K in a while, and the Rock’n’Roll remix bling was incentive enough, since I’m already running the half marathon tomorrow.
Packet Pickup
As always, packet pickup was at the Rock’n’Roll Health & Fitness Expo held at the Raleigh Convention Center. I’ve participated in enough Rock’n’Roll events that I’m familiar with the process; Look up your bib number, fill out the waiver, pick up your bib with timing shoe tag, get your t-shirt with your gear bag and a few samples, then enter expo.
On the expo floor, plenty of companies are giving away samples, and have fitness related things for sale; massaging rollers, reusable heat/ice packs, t-shirts, mugs, stickers, Sport Beans, Gu Energy gels, and more. Chiropractors and Massage Therapists also have booths.
Race Day
The crowd gathering for the 5K seemed a lot smaller than I had figured. Granted, the photo below was taken rather early, and is in no way representative of the crowd it attracted. For such a small race (and a 5K, anyway), I was surprised to see Corral signs. As always, Ann Wessling did a great job firing up the crowd.
The Race
The race took place on Umstead Dr and other roads between Western Blvd and Centennial Pkwy. With temperatures in the low 40s, and slightly breezy, it was beautiful to run in.
Pace and Cadence
Results
The official results. Let’s put it this way: 22:02 isn’t my best time, but considering the lack of speed training, recent injuries, and unfortunate weight gain, I can’t really complain. I also don’t really want to push too hard, injury prone as I seem to be at the moment, as I have the half marathon to run tomorrow, and I’d like to not already start that race on a bad note.
The Medal
I forgot to take a photo with medal, but here’s a reference photo. 🙂

Packet Pickup at the Fitness Expo This was the farthest I’ve driven for an event, arriving at the Savannah International Trade Convention Center around 4pm. Just finding a parking spot took 30 minutes of slowly being directed to the parking lot, waiting in line, and ultimately, getting lucky. An officer, who was directing traffic, mentioned that over …
What a Blast! So two weeks ago on June 19, I did the Warrior Dash in Huntersville, NC along with our obstacle course workout group. This race and the entire weekend was a fantastic experience. Since most of us are from from the Raleigh/Durham, NC area and the race was three hours away in Charlotte, NC, we …
The Big Ass Medal Race Series by Coastal Race Productions is something I’ve had my sights set on since finding out about the event at the Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon race packet pickup. Packet Pickup The no-frills race packet pickup was at the Oak Island Park & Recreation Center, and barely worth mentioning. No marketing gimmicks, …
