We had an absolutely fanastic time with this one. Our workout group had a huge turnout, likely also because the event was local. We went to have a good time and a good time we had indeed. There was not much running to finally hit a muddy obstacle. We ran a short piece, dodged the first wave of zombies, were immediately thrown into the mud, and climbed up and slid down hills. While it’s no longer the middle of summer, the weather was fantastic. Cool enough to run comfortably, warm enough to not freeze.
I added another camera this time around and ran with four GoPros total, wearing three, with a fourth on a tripod, which I treated more as a monopod. The Rain-X I used on the lens covers didn’t work as well as I had hoped, but I generally had at least one camera that wasn’t entirely clogged up and caught something interesting.
To summarize, this even was awesome, and not the least bit competitive. Because it was local, I told everyone about it. Friends, coworkers, my hairstylist. Surprisingly, almost everyone had heard about it or even knew someone who signed up for it. It makes Raleigh seem like that much more of a small town.
Interestingly enough, whenever I suggest someone that they should sign up for the run, I heard all kinds of good intentions. “Oh yeah, I gotta start running.” or “I definitely [have to/want to] get into shape so I can run this.” Seriously. Just sign up. It doesn’t take a professional athlete, or even regular running in order to partake in and finish these races — certainly not the 5K ones.
The next Zombie Escape race is already scheduled for April 20, 2013. Go register now!
What a Blast! So two weeks ago on June 19, I did the Warrior Dash in Huntersville, NC along with our obstacle course workout group. This race and the entire weekend was a fantastic experience. Since most of us are from from the Raleigh/Durham, NC area and the race was three hours away in Charlotte, NC, we …
Phew! The Timberjack Challenge is a team-based event, organized by the Me Fine Foundation. Our obstacle course workout group had two teams partake in this event. And although it was “only” a 5K, there were 31 obstacles, and the race took about an hour. We ran the 5K distance almost exclusively in mud, which was rather strenuous. …

Last weekend on the 18th our obstacle course workout group met at Panic Point, where the Zombie Escape Mud Run will take place on September 8th. We did a pre-race run to test the obstacle course and give some last minute feedback. I put together a video of people climbing their way across the various obstacles. As always, …
